Key Stage 3 Music (Years 7, 8 and 9)

In Year 7, students learn about the elements of music through the study of graphic notation, pitch, rhythm and ostinati. They learn about instruments of the orchestra and study music from other cultures such as Indian music.

In Year 8, students develop their knowledge of melody and accompaniment through the study of musical textures and structures such as drones, chords and variations. They also look at Programme Music and its development in the Romantic Period.

In Year 9, students learn about the blues and improvisation. They develop their compositional technique by writing music for film and television as well as writing in popular song styles such as Reggae.

All students at Key Stage 3 develop performance skills in voice, keyboard and guitar through progressive programmes of study throughout the three years.
